In 1934, a war-scarred and broken veteran wanders the harsh Australian outback as a Sundowner - one of many men cast adrift by the Great Depression. Seeking only shelter and work, he finds fleeting kindnesses, but when he intervenes in an abusive marriage, a tragic chain of events starts to unfold.
